County Librarian Amy Taylor


Amy Taylor joined the Merced County organization as County Librarian on August 11, 2014. Her purview includes oversight of library services for Merced County Library, which includes twelve library facilities and a bookmobile. 

She began her career in public service in 1998 with the County of Stanislaus in the Library Department. She promoted multiple times within the department with growing responsibilities; Periodical Department Supervisor, Information Technology Web Librarian, Regional Librarian, and Modesto Library Manager. While with Stanislaus County Library, Taylor worked with Friends of the Library groups, Library Foundation, and multiple community organizations to develop programs and services in response to community needs. 

Taylor holds an Associate of Art from Merced College, a Bachelor of Art in Liberal Studies - Communication from California State University, Stanislaus and a Master’s in Library and Information Science from San Jose State University. She was born and raised in South Dakota and moved to Merced, California in 1992. She considers the Central Valley her home. Amy is the second of three children. Her parents are retired educators and former business owners. 

Amy is married to Ken Taylor, Adjunct Music Faculty with Merced College and they have two children, Ryan and Skyler, who both graduated from John H. Pitman High School and are attending Modesto Junior College (political science) and Grand Canyon University (biology – pre-physical therapy). The Taylor family enjoys spending time together playing board games, camping, and enjoying nature.
