Cal-Fire Emergency Command Center BuildingWho We Are

CAL FIRE Madera Mariposa Merced (MMU) Emergency Command Center located in Mariposa, California answers incoming 9-1-1 calls for Merced County Fire Department along with two other counties. Dispatchers are almost always the first contact the public has with our Fire Department. They are required to triage and prioritize the incoming calls for service and make referrals to other agencies when appropriate. They are also responsible for dispatching calls for fire personnel, tracking the whereabouts of those field units, and monitoring the safety of the field personnel. The dispatchers have access to translation services that allows them to communicate with callers who do not speak English, or have limited English language ability.

The job of a fire dispatcher is often challenging, fast-paced, and no two days are alike.  When a 9-1-1 call comes in, it could be anything from a house on fire to a minor vehicle accident. Our dispatchers are the vital link between Merced County Fire Department and the residents and visitors in our communities who need help.
