Deputy Fuller was killed Aug 19, 1981 when his patrol car crashed into the rear end of a farm pipe trailer and overturned on Highway 152 at Delta Road. Deputy Fuller was responding to a call in Dos Palos involving burglary suspects. He was the primary unit and was being followed by backup, when the accident occurred in the east bound lanes. Fuller had been assigned to the Westside for two years.

Dennis DeWayne Fuller was born March 10,1957 in Keota, Haskell County, Oklahoma to Raymond Fuller and Joyce McClary. The family moved to Merced County when he was 14 months old, where he and his brothers, Dennis and Dwight, and his sister Terri were raised. July 1978 he married Cheryl A. Davis,and they had one daughter Nicole M. Fuller. He was a graduate of McSwain Grammar School, Merced High School and attended Merced College. In 1979 he graduated from the Police Academy and joined the Merced County Sheriff's Office. He was previously employed by Ray' s Mobil Gas, and a Carpet Mill in Merced. He enjoyed duck and pheasant hunting, playing billiards, and water skiing.

He was laid to rest in Merced District Cemetery.
