Crisis Programs

Triage Services

  • BHRS Triage Staff respond to local emergency rooms within the cities of Los Banos and Merced.
  • They provide crisis intervention services to determine need, aiming for lowest level of care possible.
  • Triage staff respond to individuals within who are experiencing a psychiatric emergency and link them to appropriate services within our Merced County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services or other community resources.

Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU)

  • The Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) is open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. 
  • 24 Hour Crisis Response Service- Treatment services component include: 
    • psychiatric risk assessments, 
    • emergency screenings, 
    • responding to assessments at the local emergency rooms in Los Banos and Merced, 
    • crisis interventions, 
    • answering calls for the after-hour access line, conducting individual therapeutic interventions, 
    • collateral interventions, 
    • placement and transfer coordination to other PHFs. 
  • Crisis Stabilization provides services to any resident/non-resident of Merced County needing psychiatric care, either voluntarily or involuntarily, upon proper evaluation by the Crisis Stabilization Unit staff who have access to collaborate 24 hours per day, 7 days per week with a psychiatrist.

Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT)

  • Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) is designed to evaluate community member’s needs early and determine the least restrictive environment safe enough to place or refer one to when struggling with a crisis situation.
  • MCRT will aid and assist our community partners to focus on what they do best and not be constrained with issues of support beyond their scope or necessity.
  • Law enforcement from Merced Police Department and Merced County Sheriff will request support from the MCRT team to respond within the community relating to mental health crisis situations.
  • Prioritization will be considered based on imminent danger and crisis need.
  • They provide crisis intervention services to determine need, aiming for lowest level of care possible.
